English (ESL) Role Play – Asking For Directions

This English role play will help high-beginner ESL students practice more difficult ways to ask and give directions.

Scenario one – Asking for Directions
Lost Person: Excuse me. Do you know where _______________ is?
Passer-by: Yes, it’s next to the bank. Go straight one block, turn left and go straight 100 metres. It’s on your left.
Lost Person: Thank you very much!
Passer-by: No problem.

Scenario two – No help
Lost Person: Excuse me. Do you know where _______________ is?
Passer-by: I’m sorry; I don’t know where it is.
Lost Person: No problem. Thanks anyway.

Scenario three – Too far
Lost Person: Excuse me. Do you know where _______________ is?
Passer-by: Oh, it’s very far from here.
Lost Person: Oh, okay. How can I get there?
Passer-by: It’s about 30 minutes on foot. You should take a taxi.
Lost Person: Okay, thanks for your help.
