English (ESL) Role Play – Asking for a Favor

This English role play will help ESL students learn how to ask for favors.

Scenario one – Asking for a favor
Andy: Hi Dave! Could you do me a favor?
Dave: Sure, what it is?
Andy: Could you lend me $20?
Dave: Okay, but what’s the money for?
Andy: I have to buy some books for university.

Scenario two – Asking for a favor (using ‘ing’)
Andy: Hi Dave! Could you give me a hand moving these tables?
Dave: No problem.

Scenario three – Refusing a favor
Andy: Hi Dave! Could you do me a favor?
Dave: Sure, what is it?
Andy: Could you help me tidy my room?
Dave: Sorry Andy, I don’t have time. I have to study.
Andy: Okay, no problem.

Scenario four – Asking for a favor using ‘will’
Andy: Hi Dave! Will you do me a favor?
Dave: Sure, what is it?
Andy: Will you help me study for my exam?
Dave: No problem. When?
Andy: This evening.
Dave: Okay, I’ll see you then.
